Description

A true gem of this region is Lake Sabljaci, a reservoir created on the course of the Zagorska Mrežnica River. This eleventh-largest lake in Croatia (170 ha) is often called the “Ogulin Sea.” If you look at it from Prelesje above the village of Desmerice, it truly appears like a vast sea bay.

With its variety of fish species—from native trout, grass carp, and chub to the renowned trophy tench—it is a real haven for anglers. At the same time, it offers endless opportunities for recreation: swimming, rowing, windsurfing, leisurely walks and cycling, as well as rowing regattas.

Additional information

Fishing is allowed throughout the year, and in addition to brown and rainbow trout, anglers can catch grayling, grass carp, carp, pike-perch, chub, pike, roach, and rudd. The trophy tench caught in this lake are famous far and wide! Every winter, beautiful white swans find their refuge on the lake, while parts of the lake sometimes turn dark from large flocks of coots.
