Dobra cycling route
The local Dobra cycling route is marked with signs and panels. The entire route is on paved roads, with a small section of gravel along Bukovnik Lake. From the town center, the route heads west, passing gentle ups and downs, goes past the village of Puškarići for about two kilometers, and continues straight toward Hreljin Ogulinski.
At the point where you see the clear, fast-flowing Dobra River, the path splits to the left toward Jasenak/Bjelsko/Bjelolasica and follows the river straight to Hreljin Ogulinski. Along the way, you can admire well-tended gardens, orchards, family homes, and weekend houses. As the houses and villages move out of view, the Klek mountain appears in the distance, like a projection on a large screen.
Tips for Tourist Cyclists:
Plan your route and check the weather forecast.
Wear a helmet, reflective clothing, and lights.
Bring water, snacks, and basic repair tools.
Follow traffic rules and respect other road users.
Enjoy nature, local specialties, and sights.
This is a nice spot to pause and admire the Molinarijev Bridge over the Dobra River. It marks the beginning of the Rudolfina Road, which connects Ogulin with Novi Vinodolski. The road was named after Crown Prince Rudolf, son of Franz Joseph I. The bridge was built in 1874 and is named after Antun Mollinary, the Military Frontier administrator. From the bridge, you can see the mill in Puškarići on the Dobra, which is still operational and can be visited with prior notice. On the cycling route, we are also on the fairy tale route, and at the mill, you can meet Neva Nevičica. 🙂
The path continues to Hreljin and then toward Vitunj. In Vitunj, the Vitunjčica River flows through picturesque landscapes under Klek Mountain, passing meadows and forests, and quickly joins the Gornja Dobra, which then flows into Bukovnik. On the way to Klanci, there is a small bridge connecting the banks of the Dobra. After crossing, the route runs below the lush Kapela Forest on one side and Bukovnik Lake on the Dobra on the other. Bukovnik and Pećnik are popular summer excursion spots for locals.
In 1879, Ogulin merchant D. Mucek built a small chapel dedicated to St. John in the cool shade. Beneath it, a spring of clear, cold water emerges, flows underground for about sixteen meters, and then comes out as the Bukovnik stream into the Dobra. Before Ogulin had a water supply, local girls would come here to fetch water.
Wild ducks and swans are regular residents of this part of the route.
